Characteristic of the degree programme:

The degree programme is especially intended for students with completed B.A. studies in related socioscientific and human-oriented disciplines – journalism, sociology, politology, philosophy, history, psychology, philological and arts disciplines, etc. It is open for appplicants from other (e.g. science, economic) disciplines as well. However, the applicants are expected to have a measure of knowledge corresponding with a B.A. degree in humanities or social sciences.

The programme’s focus respects the interdisciplinary character of media studies emphasizing the theory and analysis of media communication in general communication (semiotic) frame including its basic contexts (sociocultural, political, economic, philosophical).

Thus the education is structured into two categories of courses :

  • basic courses, which provide comprehensive context of knowledge from the field of media studies in a range accordant with master’s degree (i.e. educating an expert in appropriate media problems)
  • optional courses, which are oriented to more systematic and deeper study in one or more specific spheres of media studies‘ concern, so that the students, considering the coverage of media studies, after managing the basic „compendium of media studies“ could specialize in a narrower field, in which they could further deepen and develop their knowledge.

Programme structure:

  1. analytical courses
  2. theory of media communication
  3. history and present of media
  4. semiotic-communication frame
  5. contexts of media production
  • cultural
